I've always been drawn to empty urban landscapes. When I was a kid, my favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon was ride my bike downtown. I'd ride around the deserted streets feeling as if I had the city to myself. Now that I'm older, I still find myself downtown "after hours" - at night or on weekends - when most of the stores and offices are closed. But it just doesn't have the same appeal as it did in my youth. That luxurious "mine, all mine!" feeling has been replaced by "where are all the signs of life?"
