From as far back as I can remember I've been fascinated by skyscrapers and cityscapes. My eye doctor's office was on the 17th floor of the State Tower Building, Syracuse's tallest, and I loved staring out at the world below from the waiting room windows. When I was in high school I used to ride my bicycle downtown after school and explore the upper stories of the office towers. Things were different then; stairwell doors were unlocked and security guards didn't seem to mind a quiet young guy who didn't seem to be causing any trouble. There's no such freedom now, and my upper level adventures are limited to public areas such as the observation deck at City Hall. It's a shame.
